Love conquers all they say, and for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, it also helps to win awards.The tourism bureau’s “Love is Love marketing initiative, designed to help showcase Greater Fort Lauderdale as an ideal destination for same-sex weddings, was recognized for excellence at a statewide tourism promotion award ceremony this week.

Cheers erupted and beach balls filled the air, after joining 100 gay and straight couples in a mass gay-marriage celebration shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday in Fort Lauderdale.The annual Flagler Awards, named after railroad magnate and real estate developer Henry Flagler, were established in 2000 by Visit Florida, the state’s official tourism marketing corporation, to recognize outstanding tourism marketing efforts.The Love is Love initiative included a mass wedding celebration with 100 same-sex and straight couples exchanging or renewing their vows in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 5 following an international advertising campaign promoting the destination for LGBT celebrations.Pop star Lance Bass, former *NSYNC member and Dancing with the Stars alum was the official ambassador of the celebration, which he attended with husband Michael Turchin.
