Pelicans, tortoises and opossums, oh my! That’s exactly what you’ll find at South Florida Wildlife Center (SFWC), receiving between 12,000 and 14,000 patients annually, spanning over 250 species including squirrels, raccoons, baby alligators, snakes, swans, pelicans, iguanas, lizards, white ibis, ducks and more. These creatures are becoming sick, injured, or orphaned mostly due to interactions with humans. Vehicles, glass windows on buildings, poisons, free-roaming pets and intentional acts of human cruelty often pose a bigger threat than predators to local wildlife.
