Ponce de Leon is credited as Florida’s first tourist, and Chester Arthur is noted as the first United States President to visit Florida while in office.  Who was Chester Arthur?  Well, exactly.  He was never supposed to be president, but came to office as vice president under President James Garfield.  When Garfield was assassinated in 1881, Arthur became the Twenty-First President of the United States.
