The opening of the first stage of the Faena complex up Collins Avenue may be the biggest story in Miami at the moment but another notable and more intimate entry into the luxury hotel market opened just before with what may well be the best restaurant on the beach.

Nautilus, a Sixty Hotel, is another 1950’s gem designed as a hotel by architect Morris Lapidus and now transformed in a modern style but with touches of that era including a return of its original name.  The main restaurant Driftwood Room under the guidance of  executive chef Alex Guarnaschelli of New York’s Butter (and the Food Network’s “Chopped”) also raises dining in this part of South Beach to another level.
