Travel news from around Florida:
▪ Biketoberfest opens Wednesday at the Bank and Blues Club in Daytona Beach and runs through Oct. 18, with concerts, demos, bike shows, swap meets, dinners, cole slaw wrestling and the Blessing of The Bikes at Basilica of St. Paul. The event has been held annually under that names since 1993, although Daytona Beach hosted fall motorcycle rallies before then. Main Street in Daytona Beach will be the prime location for most activities, but some events will be elsewhere, including Daytona International Speedway, Riverfront Park and Volusia County Fairgrounds, which will host vendors, demos and bike shows. There also will be rides around Central Florida. Details: www.daytonabeach.com/events/motorcycle-rallies/biketoberfest/
▪ Key West will have a “Heroes and Villains” 5k Run/Walk Oct. 26, when participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero or supervillain. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, best group, scariest and funniest costumes. The event is part of Fantasy Fest, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit youth sports and camp opportunities for children with cancer. The race will start and end at the Southernmost Beach Cafe (1405 Duval St.), running along Duval Street and the Atlantic shoreline. Enthusiasts also can register online until 30 minutes before the race. The entry fee is $25 per runner or walker through Oct. 24 and $30 thereafter. Details:www.heroesandvillains5K.com.
