Fernandina Beach’s Marlin & Barrel distillery is expanding into new territory.

The distillery, which began six months ago, has been seeing success so far in its taproom with its vodka and rum. Founder Roger Morenc says the decision to distribute with Republic National represents a “seminal moment” for the brand. “It’s the entry point for something more,” Morenc said.

The distillery is beginning discussions with restaurants, bars and hotels this week, and expects to start new accounts soon. The company will be announcing new clients as they become official. “It takes a lot of work to get to this point,” Morenc said. “We’re lining up everything behind it.”
The distillery isn’t looking to expand too quickly, however. It is looking to establish itself in nearby markets first.
“We won’t be a global brand. It’s not about size for us,” he said. “As long as we have the money to keep pushing the business forward, we’ll be OK.”
