As engines roar toward the 74th Daytona Beach Bike Week, history is marching forward in Carl Morrow’s workshop. “Business is not what it once was, but we’re grateful for what we’ve got,” said Morrow, owner of Carl’s Speed Shop on 384 N. Beach St. Morrow, who’s been at the same location for more than 20 years, has weathered his share of economic storms and created his share of monster machines. He’s been building motorcycles since 1969, achieving speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and at drag strips across the country. He even taught bike builder Jesse James a thing or two when James was starting out. But Morrow’s focus is his customers.”My reputation is more than one event or one bike. It’s about honesty and dependability. That’s what people expect.”
