“Consumers have the power to make important changes,” said Saiz, “This piece is a reminder of what happened and what companies choose to ignore–health and safety violations against garment workers.”Saiz’s “She Is A Pill” piece is a pop art nod to the 50th anniversaries of the birth control pill, hair color in a box and Barbie. It features 50 images of a Barbie-inspired character wearing a birth control pill container hat and sporting 50 different hair colors. “It celebrates women’s reproductive freedom as well as freedom of identity,” says Saiz, “These were big, life-changing events for women, so I knew I needed to make the piece an extreme size.”
The acrylic on canvas piece measures 70 x 36 inches. The BIG! exhibition will be at the ArtServe Gallery located at 1350 E Sunrise Blvd in Fort Lauderdale for the entire month of October 2015.
