Warm weather is here as we see from all of the sun lovers flocking to our beaches. Our northern neighbors yearn for our beautiful sunny days. In the Vilano and North Beach communities, visitors zoom past several passive parks along the A1A Coastal Byway. One of the most popular is Surfside Park, at 3070 Coastal Highway, just about a quarter of a mile north of the traffic signal at the foot of the Francis and Mary Usina Bridge near Publix in the Town Center.

The Surfside Dance Hall and Bathhouse stood along Ocean Highway from the 1900s to the 1970s when the aging building was torn down and replaced by a county park. Today, people come and go to the beach through Surfside Park. However, not too long ago, it was a destination for another reason entirely. In the early 1900s, the Surfside Casino stood right about here.
