To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale Race for the Cure, Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale honored its race founders and 20 South Florida breast cancer survivors at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables on Sept. 20 during the Inaugural Faces of a Warrior Survivor Luncheon presented by South Florida Ford Dealers.

The survivors represented each of the 20 years the Miami/Fort Lauderdale race has run. They shared their personal journeys battling breast cancer, and the strength and perseverance it took to overcome the disease.“We were delighted to honor our race founders whose determination and passion brought the first Race for the Cure to Miami 20 years ago,” said Cathy McCarthy, executive director of Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale. “And we are incredibly proud of our 2015 survivors, who not only have survived breast cancer but are thriving today in spite of it. Our survivors and founders are true warriors.”The event leads up to the Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale Race for the Cure on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami.
