The city is changing its tune when it comes to street musicians, artists and other performers setting up shop downtown, on Riverwalk or near the beach.

The locations should soon be open for business for buskers, once considered an unwanted nuisance by the city but now being courted as tourist entertainment.

It’s about time, says Chuanwen Wang, a 68-year-old caricature artist and Chinese immigrant. Wang fought the city in court for the right to draw sketches for beach customers and has continued his trade unharassed as the city crafted a law regulating street performances.
