Mayor Nancy Shaver read a proclamation recognizing Greek Landing Days during Friday September 4th and Saturday September 5th events at St Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine on St George Street. The Director of the National Shrine, Polly Hillier, told Historic City News that Mayor Shaver’s good work has earned her the gratitude, love and great respect of St Augustine’s Greek Orthodox community. “This annual ceremony commemorates the arrival of 500 Greeks to New Smyrna and their migration to St Augustine in the company of British emissary, Dr. Andrew Turnbull,” Hillier said. “Thank you, Mayor Shaver, for all you did to make this historical weekend memorable for as many citizens of St Augustine as possible.”

Activities Friday included food served in the St Photios Constantine Courtyard and Greek folk dancers celebrating throughout the city.
