A slew of businesses in Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale that catered to spring breakers closed after city officials there chased them away in the 1980s and ’90s with increased law enforcement and regulations. But officials from both cities said it was temporary pain for future gain. The cities, after initial economic downfall, have had significant economic rebounds, officials said, and they have successfully been able to replace the Spring Break crowd with family, group, international and convention business.
