Saturday, October 17
October brims with events. Along with autumn, pumpkin beer releases, Oktoberfest, and Halloween comes a more meaningful cause: breast cancer awareness. One of the participating organizations for this cause is Glam-A-Thon. The South Florida-based breast cancer charity is a nonprofit organization that puts on fun events such as the Lipstick Lounge, a swanky affair that features tapas, cocktails, fashion, and cosmetics. Another one of its popular events, the Glam-A-Thon Glam Doll Strut, will take place this Saturday at Esplanade Park. Those who participate in the walk create teams and get to strut their stuff in downtown Fort Lauderdale with outrageouslyfabulous attire of their choice — creativity is key. Crowns will be given to those with the most imaginative team names and outfits. In addition, the four teams that raise the most money and have the largest number of members will be crowned the queen/king of Glam-A-Thon 2015. Participants of all ages are welcome at this family- and pet-friendly event.

The cost to join is $45 per person. Proceeds will help fund underinsured local women who are undergoing breast cancer treatment and therapy. Participants will each receive a signature Glam-A-Thon tote bag. The Glam Doll Strut begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Esplanade Park is located at 400 SW Second St. in Fort Lauderdale.
