Boaters launched vessels in the sun Monday morning as local, county and state dignitaries converged at Jacksonville Landing for the opening of local trails that link a statewide corridor.

Onslow Bight and Jacksonville Segment of the Coastal Crescent Trail, which passes the landing, connects hiking and road trips with the nature and historic highlights of the Tar Heel State.

The 91-mile segment opened at a wood walkway flanked with a temporary sign advising visitors to “Take A Hike.”
