As the sun rose above Flagler Avenue, the Atlantic Ocean rumbled in the distance and pucks clicked on a shuffleboard court. A fluffy white rooster strutted around a Crayola-bright food truck called GoJuice. The truck’s owner, Nick Fairman, introduced the neighborhood fowl as “Jim Stober.” In New Smyrna Beach, everyone has a backstory, even chickens. Apparently, Jim’s name is the alias of a local ne’er–do-well.
