Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach brought on the homegrown talent to kick off four days of fantastic fashion. As guests took their seats at the exclusive Setai Hotel on Collins Avenue on Thursday evening, November 5, 2015, they were in for more than just your ordinary fashion show. Extremely gifted design students direct from Miami International University of Art & Design were put up to the challenge by a local South Florida McDonalds franchise to create an original fashion collection totally out of McDonalds signature food packaging. The end result was more than magnificent. Vivacious, energized models wore the outfits well. Guests were highly encouraged to share photos on social media by using #McDCouture.

This fashion display of ingenuity could only be described as McDCouture, delivering coffee cup couture, ready-to-wear wrappers and fry box frocks. Halter tops, layered skirts, ponchos and even a wedding gown took on the appearance of a designer collection. One of the latest trends to take over the fall, fringe, also made a showing.

What went into creating all these exotic designs? Weeks of preparation required 4,600 McDonalds sandwich wrappers, 1,770 fry boxes, 1,100 straws, 600 to-go bags, 500 sandwich boxes, 200 soft drink cups, 500 ketchup holders and 100 McFlurry cups. Out of all this material came 20 amazing looks to build a designer-worthy collection.
