A manatee and calf, artfully painted in hues of blue and green, are breathing a little marine life into the western wall of the Hallandale Beach Boulevard Bridge.

The sea creatures, colorful creations of West Palm Beach artist Eduardo Mendieta, are part of a mural commissioned by Broward County in honor of its 100th birthday.

Though not yet complete, the seascape is already turning heads.

Some love it and some hate it.

A plaque with names of the manatees and the child who named them eventually will be placed on display at City Hall.

There’s just one minor mystery.

No one knows if the sea calf is a boy or a girl.
