“Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, several Brothers Grimm storybook characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Jack (of beanstalk notoriety) are weaved into one new fairy tale, here directed and choreographed for Entr’Acte Theatrix by Kevin Black. “In 1988, I saw the national tour of ‘Into the Woods’ with a group of friends, and I was mesmerized,” he says. “Here was a story of hope, morals and life lessons. It was my introduction into the world of Sondheim, and I was hooked. We’re taking a very comedic approach to the show, brightening the tempos and creating a modern-day look in set and costume design.”
