On Saturday, September 10, 2016, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending approximately at noon, Historic City News readers are invited to attend the re-enactment of the landing of Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés’ presented by the volunteers of Florida Living History, Inc. The commemoration event will be staged at Mission Nombre de Dios; the traditional site of Menéndez’ landing. The founding of the City of St Augustine, four hundred and fifty-one years ago on September 8, 1565, makes St Augustine the oldest continuously occupied, European city, port, and parish in the continental United States.
