Hallandale Beach was recently again part of a worldwide effort aimed at cleaning up the beach.

This was the 15th year the city invited residents to take part in the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup. Among those taking part were members of the city’s Teen Zone and Green Team programs.”It’s one day where everyone out on every beach is participating, and it’s one day where we are all united. People need to have awareness about beach cleanup, and this helps spread that awareness,” said Kristin Ramirez, the city’s events, marketing and volunteer coordinator.

According to Ocean Conservancy’s website, 560,000 volunteers in 91 countries picked up more than 16 million pounds of trash during the 2014 cleanup.
