Purple-and-white feather banners, flowers and balloons fluttered in the sea breeze Saturday as nearly 500 people packed Veterans Park in Flagler Beach to show their support for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease during the Walk To End Alzheimer’s.

Michelle Drinks, event coordinator and associate director of development for the Central and Northeast Florida Alzhiemer’s Association, was encouraged by Saturday’s turnout — and the donations.

“We had an amazing turnout with almost 500 individuals,” said Drinks, who was quick to credit the planning committee and volunteers for the success of this year’s event.

The event shattered the goal set for the fundraiser.

A wrap-up party is planned for 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Flagler Beachfront Winery to celebrate the walkers and volunteers.
