Crowd Gathers for Sea Turtle Nest Exam, Excavation

More than 50 people put their feet in the sand at Coquina Beach Aug. 21 to watch the nest of celebrity sea turtle Amie being excavated.Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch and Shorebird Monitoring invited the public via social media to view the excavation. The nest, located near lifeguard tower No. 1 on Coquina Beach, 2650 Gulf Drive S., Bradenton Beach, is the only known nest Amie, a loggerhead, laid on Anna Maria Island this season.
