Florida was the first region in the present day United States to be globalized by Europeans. In 2013, Florida celebrated the 500-year anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s landing on the state’s Atlantic Coast, even though the exact location is still unknown. “La Florida, Five Hundred Years of Hispanic Presence” has two sections with six essays in each, written by scholars in their field.
