A Snapshot of St. Augustine in 1776

When the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, St. Augustine’s forts, streets and taverns were filled with British soldiers. It had been that way since 1763 when Spain transferred Florida to Great Britain at the end of the French and Indian War.
