We have the Friends of A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway to thank for the gorgeous 72 miles of A1A traversing the northeastern coast of Florida from Ponte Vedra Beach to Flagler Beach. Since 2002, when this stretch of A1A was granted federal status by the Department of Transportation, the Friends have created a cohesive experience for those who want to travel in the slow lane.

You can take in the historical byway on Nov. 14 if you attend the seventh annual Super Scenic Garage Sale to benefit the Friends. But this is no ordinary garage sale. There will be at least 10 community venues along the entire scenic byway and numerous single-vendor sites. With the high visibility and a huge inventory, the Super Scenic Garage Sale is a match made in heaven for vendors and customers alike.

The garage sale starts at 8 a.m. and officially ends at 5 p.m. People have stayed longer in past years, said Danielle Anderson, president of the Friends of AlA Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway. The cost is $20 per vendor and you can contact Friends for a neighborhood fee. Vendors keep all their proceeds. The sites will be well-marked with designated signs. For registration and community site venues, go to scenicA1A.org.
